Making the circle bigger; why Networking is so important for your business
According to Karl Smith, South Africa’s own “Networking Guy’ who says you do business with people you know, like and trust. So it stands to reason that the more people you are connected with in all spheres of business, the more mutually beneficial it will be for all parties involved.
Here are 4 great reasons to Network your business:
- Opportunity: Every time you stand in a que, sit on a plane, go to a party or just leave the house, you have an opportunity to market your business. Every person you meet is a potential client and friend in the making. It does take courage to step out of your comfort zone. Just ask yourself the question ‘what do you have to lose?’ The answer? Nothing.
- Brand Exposure: Getting your business or talents ‘out there’ requires exposure. Having an awesome product without exposure is not going to generate any sales. Word of mouth is the most powerful tool in your marketing repertoire, so it makes sense that the more people exposed to your brand, the better for you. This is where networking comes in to play.
- Relationship building: Having hundreds of contacts may fool you into believing you have a dynamic data base, but contacts without real connection is pointless. When you build on your relationships with people you get to understand their needs and they get to understand yours. This inevitably leads to meeting the ‘right’ people as your contacts will connect you! This has happened numerous times to me; a contact who became a friend who connects me with someone whom I need to do business with. And so the circle expands…
- Sharing: From telephone numbers to knowledge, sharing info is a great way to build on your relationships. Networking with others will definitely mean that information and ideas will be shared. Be generous with your knowledge and people will be generous with theirs. Networking will help you meet the right people for your business, and expose your business to the right people.
In short, networking is a potent tool to grow your business, make it work for you!
